Featured Van: Ian’s LDV V80 Campervan Conversion

LDV V80 Campervan Conversion

When Ian came to us with his LDV V80 campervan conversion, we knew we were in for a treat. With intentions to live in the van full time, we worked to make the space as comfortable and functional as possible, all while creating a cosy atmosphere.

How we achieved Ian’s campervan conversion needs

Ian’s primary focus of the LDV V80 campervan buildout was functionality and liveability. With intentions of living in the van full time, the space had to be carefully thought out and planned. A walk-through style fit-out was crucial to Ian, as he wanted to easily move from the cab to the back. That inspired our first-ever fit-out this way, which we can now offer on other campervan conversions. The open space allows for plenty of gear storage in the “hallway” and even room for bikes in the rear walkway area.

A few important features of This LDV V80 Campervan Conversion:

Dual Zone Dometic Fridge Freezer

Ian wanted an independent zone fridge-freezer to be able to store all sorts of treats, so we opted for the Dual Zone Dometic CFX3 75L fridge freezer. This is the largest freezer we’ve ever installed, which created a few initial fitting challenges. Finally, we settled on mounting it on its own set of runners, allowing the unit to pull out perfectly into the walkway, and full accessibility into either compartment.

Closet Storage

Another first for us, we included closet storage space in the LDV V80 campervan for Ian to store his gear and goods. The closet was installed with a clothing rack to hang clothes or the option to be divided into a multi-shelf cupboard for storing smaller items.

Off-grid Power Capabilities

We installed two 120AH AGM batteries, 2x 100W solar panels, DC/DC charger, 350w inverter, and a 15A battery charger (automatically switching on when plugged into 240V mains) so Ian can run his fridge, inverter, lights, and more without losing power. Since he’ll be full time #vanlifing it, we needed to provide him with enough power to go off grid for a few days, should he need it. On top of all this power, we installed battery and water tank monitoring systems so he can digitally see when it’s time to top up.

Giving the LDV V80 campervan as many creature comforts as possible, we added amenities like a pullout shower unit and rear washdown tap, which are perfect for both basic hygiene and rinsing down after muddy outdoor activities. We also installed some sweet rear hatch storage which allows dual access from rear or top. As a bonus, the rear door can be used as a table.

Additionally, we installed plenty of lights, because between the high ceilings and dark wood finish, the cosy space needs a bit of brightening on dark days. We installed three separate zones, all independently controlled and dimmable. Talk about setting the mood!

Here’s what Ian has to say

“I am over the moon with the outcome of the van. I had a good feeling when I decided to pick you guys. The deciding factor for me was seeing the work you previously completed with the A-Listed vans you had on your site, so “the proof was in the pudding”, and it looked great. The vans showed that you guys have a good eye for detail, with great skills, the right contacts to get the job done to a high standard, with had lots of testing done previously helping with honing your craft.

Since picking up my van (The Black Mumba), I have been very happy with everything. The process from start to finish was great throughout; both of your personalities were professional, upbeat and positive the whole time, making me feel at ease. You guys delivered an outstanding piece of work with a little bit of time pressure too. My hat goes off to you guys, I’d gladly hand over another project van to you in the future if I decided to upgrade.

Thank you heaps for my mini house on wheels.”

So, as Ian drives off into the sunset, we dream about all the future vanlife campervan conversions we have in store. If you’re ready for the campervan of your dreams, head over to our campervan conversions page to learn more.
