Featured Van: Michael and Julia’s LWB Mercedes Sprinter

Michael and Julia dreamed of a spacious, light-filled campervan for two (plus their dog), something purpose-built for surf trips and coast-hopping weekends. When they saw our standardised LWB Mercedes Sprinter layout, it immediately ticked all the boxes: open, practical, beautifully finished, and already thoughtfully designed. Even better, it saved them from the overwhelm of decision fatigue. With a bigger chassis than our previous customer Curly—whose van originally inspired them—they could take the turnkey design and make it their own.

A few of our favourite things about this LWB Mercedes Sprinter Conversion:

Spacious and Light

Michael and Julia were keen to personalise the colour palette. Inspired by Andrew and Reza’s dual green and grey tones, they worked with us to choose a fresh and modern combination: Kea Green cabinetry paired with Sarano Oak accents, soft Dark Grey details, and crisp white walls. The bright, clean, coastal feel instantly makes the van look bigger.

A walk-through to the cab keeps everything connected, and with one swivel seat, the dining area can easily transform into a cosy, conversational space for visits with friends—or for lazy evenings just the two of them. Using the turnkey layout that maximises interior flow, we leaned into creating a light and open space by adding extra windows to prevent anything “dungeon-y.” And just like that, the whole space opened up.

Systems

To keep the build simple and manageable, they opted for a mid-range power system—but with enough juice to comfortably go off-grid. The REDARC 2000W inverter gives them reliable power for daily living, while a 440W solar setup and shore power backup keep everything topped up wherever they roam.

Surf, sun, sleep

Surfing is the heart of this van’s purpose, so custom storage was essential. We designed a removable surf rack that lets them grab their boards quickly for dawn sessions—and easily take it off when they don’t need it. The open, airy design means the van is just as comfortable parked up in the sun as it is on the move, with plenty of lounging space to stretch out after a long day in the water.

And when it's time to crash, the bed setup is as flexible as it gets. They can sleep separately on the two single beds, or drop the table and transform the space into a massive double for ultimate comfort. Either way, it’s built for deep, post-surf sleeps.

For Michael and Julia, the turnkey layout for their Mercedes Sprinter LWB offered the best of both worlds: a tried-and-true design that removed the stress from the conversion process, with just enough customisation to make the space truly theirs. With a dog-friendly layout, surf-ready storage, and a bright, breezy interior, their LWB Sprinter is more than a campervan—it’s the perfect base for chasing waves up and down the country.
