Say hello to the A-List Plus, the newest self-contained rental campervan at Matt and Dan’s.

We wanted to add a mid-size van to our fleet, one with a little extra height, but still super easy to drive. In steps the A-List Plus, a late model Toyota Hiace that is a bit smaller than our Biggie, but has all the features you need for a trip around New Zealand. Our main goal was comfort, in bougie style, as well as the ability to cook indoors and run a heater off-grid, because New Zealand winters are no joke.

A few of our favourite things about this Toyota Hiace High Roof Campervan Conversion:

Just the right height

The A-List Plus is tall, with 1570 mm of internal height. It’s not quite big enough to stand in (well, unless you’re not vertically blessed), but definitely gives you more room to move around. It’s a great height to give you a little wiggle room while still being typical ‘van size’. If you’re after full standing height though, check out the Biggie.

Fancy additions

We said bougie and we meant it. While all of our campervans have personal touches that make them feel a bit homier (and classier, if we do say so ourselves) than other rentals, the A-List Plus is really extra. Additional dimmable LED lights are fixed under the top cabinet for mood lighting without the hazards of candles. We also added powered ventilation through Maxxfan, which is super helpful to keep you cool in summer and reduce condensation in winter. As an added bonus, the thermostat feature automatically keeps things cool while you’re away — talk about luxury.

Indoor/outdoor flow

We wanted you to be able to cook inside if the weather turns (thanks, New Zealand), but also have the option to cook outside on those cracker days. The portable induction hob allows you to do both, with conveniently placed outlets on the kitchen bench top and rear of the van.

Ecoflow Power System

In a first for Matt and Dan’s, we’ve partnered with Ecoflow to install their new Power Kit System. The massive 3600W inverter powers basically anything. Induction hobs, heaters, hair dryers, you name it — you can likely bring it. The slick, touchscreen battery monitor is also super easy to use and read, so it’s easy to see what power is going out and coming in. Plus, there are three charging methods for the 2kWh battery — the alternator, solar power, or shore power plug-in. 200W of solar keeps things topped up (when the sun’s out), while the alternator will have things fully charged in an hour or two. If you’ve managed to score a plug-in spot at a campsite, you can charge the battery via shore power within an hour!

More storage!

Small vans are super cool, until you need a spot to put away all your gear. We made the most of the A-List Plus’s additional height with a top cabinet. It’s super handy to quickly access everything you need and the locking latch means you don’t need to worry about your things flying everywhere — unless you forget to latch it, of course. That one’s on you.

This campervan is available to rent through our fleet, but we also offer it as a turnkey option if you love the layout. Pick the features, colours, and materials that suit you and bam! You’ve got your van. If this sounds like something you’re interested in — get in touch with us here.

If you’re ready to see if the A-List Plus is all it’s hyped up to be (it is), book today for your New Zealand roadie.
